Getting sales information ready for the working day
Sales teams were starting their day in the field with information missing. The business intelligence platform was no longer generating the reports they needed within the available processing window. The prevailing explanation was that the platform was too old to handle the growing volume of data, and replacement was expected to be necessary.
I started with the operational objective: having the sales information ready when the team needed it. I investigated the platform, benchmarked market options, worked with different vendors, and assessed alternative technologies for their fit and expected return on investment.
The investigation identified a platform-maintenance problem rather than an inherent limitation of the technology. The assessment supported modernizing the existing platform to address the business need.
That changed the project from a technology migration into a modernization effort. It delivered business value sooner than expected and allowed the investment to be directed more closely toward the actual need.
This experience informs how I connect business and technology: make the operational need explicit, investigate the cause, and compare the options before committing to an investment.
